GAP insurance protects you if your vehicle is totaled due to theft or collision. Your insurance company only pays the vehicle's actual cash value at the time of loss, not what you owe on the vehicle. You would have to pay the difference between your insurance company’s settlement and your loan/lease balance per the contract terms. With GAP insurance, you receive risk protection for the term of your loan, up to 84 months or up to 60 months on your lease. Protection is available for vehicles valued up to $100,000, benefits are paid up to $50,000, and your deductible is covered up to $1,000.
